Help shape the future of authentication at GitLab.

GitLab is looking for an Intermediate Product Designer to join our Authentication team. In this role, you’ll design secure and intuitive experiences that make complex workflows simple for developers, teams, and enterprises worldwide.

This is a great opportunity if you’re passionate about security, user experience, and solving tough problems with elegant solutions.

What you’ll work on

You’ll lead UX efforts for key authentication features, including:

  • Token Management – Design seamless flows for creating, rotating, and managing tokens.
  • Passkeys Implementation – Help us launch a new, passwordless login experience based on FIDO standards.
  • Credentials Inventory – Create tools for enterprise users to view, manage, and audit their credentials across teams.
  • Service Accounts UI – Build better experiences for managing service accounts with clarity and control.

You’ll be part of a collaborative team, working closely with engineers, product managers, and security specialists to bring these features to life.

What makes this role unique

  • You’ll work on real, complex UX challenges that directly impact GitLab users.
  • Your work will help shape authentication workflows used by developers, DevOps, and large enterprises.
  • You’ll contribute to GitLab’s Pajamas design system and influence the way our product scales.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience designing user access, identity management, or configuration UIs.
  • Strong visual design skills and a user-centered mindset.
  • Comfort working across product areas and collaborating with multiple teams.
  • Experience conducting research and using frameworks like Jobs-to-be-Done.
  • Ability to balance leveraging a design system with creating custom components when needed.
  • A thoughtful approach to complex workflows and a drive to improve usability at scale.

How we work

You’ll collaborate closely with product managers, UX researchers, engineers, and other designers. You’ll define the design vision, create prototypes and high-fidelity mockups, run usability tests, and track success metrics. You’ll also engage with the GitLab user community to identify pain points and improve outcomes.

About GitLab

What we offer

  • 100% remote work and async-friendly processes
  • Flexible time off and generous parental leave
  • Equity and employee stock purchase plans
  • Learning and development budget
  • Inclusive, supportive team culture
  • Home office support and wellness benefits
